"My life has never been particularly easy, but I believe this has made me a stronger person. Up until this point, the toughest thing I have ever had to do was educate myself while being a mother and putting my children above all. At the age of sixteen, I became pregnant, and education was not a high priority in my life at that time. I wanted so badly to drop out and stay at home with my son, but with the constant love and support from my family, I was able to graduate high school, which was a huge accomplishment for me. I later decided I wanted to pursue a career in nursing, and at the beginning of my second year in the program, I found out I was pregnant for my second son. Although I didn’t think I would be able to juggle everything life was throwing at me, I found light in the positivity and support from my family and friends. Thanks to them, I was able to have my son and return to school immediately, graduating with honors when he was only six months old. My boys have made me a stronger person, and I want them both to grow up knowing I did everything I possibly could for them. There were so many nights where I wanted to give up, but because of them, I pushed through every obstacle life threw my way.
I have only been a nurse for a short period, it has already positively affected my life in so many ways. I go to work every day knowing that I am making a difference in the lives of others, which is such a rewarding feeling. I spend my days helping people who are in their most vulnerable state, which makes me feel like I am fulfilling my purpose in life. I am constantly touched by my patients and their unique stories, and I hope that in return I am able to positively impact their lives in some way."
