“Every year we take our local independent shops for granted. We all tend to shop online, myself included, without even giving our local community a chance. If you take a moment to walk into each of these stores you will see that we have everything we need. Not only are we getting the things we want or need but we are also helping a family pay their bills this month, we’re helping a business grow. Everyone is so friendly and because we are such a “small town” chances are they’ll remember you the next time you go in. This is the reason why I started the Christmas Basket Event to show what our community has to offer.
Giving back and organizing the local holiday basket is extremely rewarding. Seeing how generous and incredible our community is, is what makes my heart so happy. We tend to hate on the idea of living in a small town, but I love it. Friendships are created, references are made, people know people. There are more positive things that come with a small town than there are negative. Helping people is so important. You never know if the winner of the basket will be someone who desperately needs the donations for their family during the holidays or if it’s someone who is about to discover a new store they’ve never gone into before. There are so many positive outcomes to this and it inspires me to give back.
I like to participate as much as I can and volunteer my photography services any chance I get. I’ve participated in Gown Gala for our Art Gallery and I’ve photographed the Denim & Diamonds charity a few times now. I often donate sessions at silent auctions or for door prizes.
Since having my son, I recognize the importance of the “the little things.” I want to raise my son knowing that it’s important to spread kindness as much as he possibly can. Small gestures are just as important as the big ones.”
